Purpose

Who We Are

The Charter Oak High School Business Education and Technology Academy (BETA) is a series of academic elective courses that students can take to pursue interests in a variety of business and technology fields.  The academy is broken up into two different career pathways. Students can choose from one of the following: Business Education or Information Technology. Our academy is funded by a Carl Perkins Career and Technical Education Act grant.

Who Can Join BETA?

The BETA program is offered to all Chatter Oak students at all grade levels. Course work is sequential so please check out the "course sequence" tab to see which pathway is best for you.  You can read descriptions about each course on the "course pathway" tab as well.

Why Join BETA?

BETA is much more than just a few elective options for students.  The academy have a number of benefits that students gain from joining the academy:

  • Opportunities to participate in a number of career exploration/development activities, including field trips, guest speakers, and business events.
  • In the Business Education Pathway, students run a "virtual business" through Virtual Enterprise
  • Leadership opportunities and soft skills development.
  • Students obtaining a B- or above grade in all (4) of their career pathways courses will earn an honor cord to wear at graduation.  These students will also be recognized at the Senior Awards Ceremony.
  • With our partnership with Mt.Sac Community College in Walnut, students can earn college credits for some of their academy courses taken at COHS.
  • Students can fulfill the technology requirement for graduation at COHS.
  • Collaboration with peers sharing similar interests and career goals.
  • Local business & community networking.
